Bintan Island , being at the crossroads of the famous India-China maritime trade route, was the crux for numerous power struggles among the Malay and Bugis warriors, and caught the interest of the Portuguese, Dutch, Arabs and British traders.

As a convenient getaway destination just 55 minutes by ferry from Singapore, the island has developed into a recreational hotspot. With its sand, sea and sun, it is perfect for a variety of sea sports and other recreational activities, including golf.

Clear sunny days and calm pristine waters are characteristic of late march to early November

Passing showers graze the island during late November to early March, and on some days you can still get good sun throughout the day. Although water sports is not available at Club Med during this season, the island's annual Windsurfing competition - The Mana Mana Amslam, part of the Asian Windsurfing Tour, is held January.

Passport / Visa Requirements

All visitors must hold current international passport valid for at least six months upon arrival in Indonesia . Proof of onward passage and sufficient funds are required.

New visa requirements for Foreigners going to Indonesia has been introduced from the 1st of February 2004.

• Free Visa is given to the following Nationals:
Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

• Visa on Arrival (VOA) is accessible upon arrival at Indonesian immigration counter with the following fees:
US$10 for max 3 days, US$35 for max 30 days for the following Nationals:
Argentina, Australia, Brasilia, Canada, Denmark, Emirate Arab, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hongaria, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan and United States of America.

• All other Nationalities have to get their visas at Indonesian Consulate of their respective country of origin

The official currency used in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah. However the Singapore Dollar is widely accepted at the resorts. Major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express are also widely accepted. For sightseeing and shopping outside of the Bintan Resorts area, it is advisable to have ready notes and coins in Indonesian Rupiah.

Tickets for the purchase of all drinks and snacks at the bar are on sale at the Reception or next to the bar. (Unused tickets are non-refundable)

   
Dress Code Day time temperatures are generally high in this tropical region, which allows for some unforgettable fun in the sun. Humidity levels are also high, so loose cotton and natural fibers are highly recommended
   
Things to Bring Don’t forget to take your suntan lotion, shower gel, shampoo, tooth brush, tooth paste and mosquito repellent.

Tipping It is not customary to tip in Bintan, but it is acceptable to leave a small tip especially when good service has been rendered. There may be a 20% service and government charge on your bill in hotels and restaurants. You need not tip beyond the service charge.

How To Get There
 

From Singapore

There is a regular ferry service operated by Bintan Resort Ferries that ply between Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Singapore and Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal, Bintan. The journey takes only 45 minutes. Please remember to Check in at least an hour before the ferry departs. For more information on the ferry schedule please visit www.brf.com.sg .

 

From Indonesia

There are chartered speedboat services which can be prebooked plying between Telaga Punggur or Nongsa Ferry Terminal, Batam and Bandar Bentan Ferry Terminal, Bintan. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. There are also daily speedboat services from Telaga Punggur Ferry Terminal, Batam to Tanjung Uban, Bintan and hire a taxi to Club Med Bintan Island.
