Village Fact Sheet

Commonly referred to as the "Pearl of the South" - it's the largest island in Thailand and one of the most popular vacation destinations in Southeast Asia. Its shores are covered in beautiful bays and beaches, surrounded by sparkling clear waters, and the warm hospitality of the Thai people. For all this, Phuket attracts up to 1 million visitors each year.

At 48 km (30 miles) long and covering 543 km2, it's a province in itself. The northern tip of the island is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel of sea, over which runs the 700 meters long Sarasin Bridge.

Originally called Junk Ceylon by early European traders, Phuket may have derived its modern name from the Malay word "bukit", meaning "hill".

Club Med Phuket was inaugurated in 1985 and is set in the tranquil bay of Kata , 890 km south of Bangkok. The Village offers all the charm and beauty of the ancient Kingdom of Siam, right down to its architecture. Unspoilt and uncluttered beaches stretch as far as the eye can see beside the jade green sea - a stunning picture of tropical beauty.

Experience the wonders of this ancient culture, and take home memories that will last a lifetime!
