Environment

Hokkaido is Japan’s less developed and northernmost island. The island measures 8.34 million ha (including the Northern Territories) and is the second largest island of Japan’s four main islands. This vastness is blessed with a rich variety of natural landscapes, from natural forests inhabited by wild animals to mysterious wetlands to steep mountains and more.

Hokkaido’s weather is cold in winter with snowfalls and frozen seas, while it is cool and comfortable in summer, as it does not get as hot and humid as in the other parts of the country. With its unspoiled nature, Hokkaido attracts many outdoor lovers, including skiers and snowboarders in the colder seasons and hikers, cyclists and campers from June to September.
